Also featuring a collection of beautiful and functional hand painted ceramics by local ceramic artist & tutor Carmel Malcolm. Daily 10am - 4pm Artist Reception: meet the artists and enjoy a chat, Sunday 3 August 2.30pm - 4pm Contact: BDAS gallery Ph. 02 4861 4093 www.bdasgallery.com THE POETRY OF PLACE - THE FIBRE ART OF VIRGINIA KAISER Date: Sun 27 Jul - Sun 7 Sep Venue: Sturt Gallery, Range Road, Mittagong The poetry of place - the fibre art of Virginia Kaiser (1945-2012). This important exhibition for Sturt and for Australian basketry has been conceived as a tribute to the extraordinary contribution made by Virginia Kaiser to the establishment and development of Australian basket art. The exhibition will include works from public and private collections; photos, papers, tools, models and sketches from Virginia's estate as well as a number of works available to acquire. The exhibition will tell the story of Virginia's path to becoming a basket weaver and the influence that she had on the sector and other artists. The exhibition will be opened on Sunday 27 July at 11am by special guest Geoff White, Director of the Lost Bear Gallery in Katoomba.
